Congratulations to former long-time SSWBN member, George Weir, now 92 and having recently started yet another business! In June, on the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion that effectively ended World War II, the French consul general bestowed the Legion of Honor, his nation’s highest award, on George as one of 11 surviving veterans who with thousands of Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy. The invasion now ranks as the largest single military action in history. During a moving ceremony in the World War II Museum in Natick, Consul General Fabien Fieschi said, “It is our duty to honor the brave men who liberated France and Europe.”
