These days, a business without a website is like a business without a telephone. Potential clients will check out a business on the Internet before they walk through the door or pick up the phone. Having a website makes you "legitimate". So the goal of this workshop was to steer business owners in the right direction. How do I get a domain name? What's FTP? Which hosting company should I use? What should a website look like? How do I get my site found on Google? Besides providing some specific resources, we talked about how to have a website that is a marketing tool, not just a lot of pretty pictures. Participants were encouraged to think about who is their target audience, and what is the "call to action". The biggest topic of the day was search engine optimization (SEO), or how to build a website that can be found in an online search. It is very difficult to summarize this information here, as there is so much to cover. I would encourage any business owner who has or is considering getting a website to make sure the Webmaster that you hire understands the marketing and SEO aspects of building the site. The goal of "Two Pros in a Pod" is to help business owners better manage their companies. Five minute weekly tips and solutions from professionals are presented in such areas as public relations, marketing, sales, motivation and management. The podcasts facilitate online networking by providing contact information during the broadcast for each guest pro. Many of the guests are current members of the SSWBN, including Beth Sobiloff, Laura Willis, Priscilla Chura, and our president-elect, Maria Recalde. Viewers can subscribe to "Two Pros in a Pod" through directories such as iTunes, podcastalley.com, and podcastinglist.org. Subscribers routinely receive the podcasts on Thursday. The podcast is also available for direct download at www.solutionpod.com or as streaming Windows video at www.superlativesolution.com. Janet McGlynn and Cinda Donovan are the innovators of "Two Pros in a Pod". She is experienced in video production for multimedia applications as well as streaming video for the internet. Cinda Donovan has worked in the field of public relations and marketing for the past five years and has ten years experience in theater, TV commercials and film. to do it all alone! If you are serious about making 2006 your
best year yet, then start now by subscribing to our weekly podcast,
Two Pros in a Pod. The more subscriptions we get, the better the chances
that it will make it to the top 100 featured videos in itunes." Janet LaBerge of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap let me know that she just scheduled a TV interview on her business for March 29th on the local cable network with the director of the Pembroke COA. She’ll let us know when it will air. After creating her company a year and a half ago, Janet has decided to focus on the cleanouts, house prep and small stuff for the elderly. She says that she finds them to be a great group to work with and she can usually do the work by herself, instead of having to hire a larger crew. --------------------------------------- Jayne Pelosi of Renaissance Interior Design is happy to announce that she will be having a book signing for her new book Interior Divine: Walking You through the Transformation of Your Home at the Hyannis Barnes & Noble on March 23rd. Lois Wood of Lois Wood Communications www.loiswood.com who you see above and needs no introduction says, "As the editor of the other SSWBN column, can I set an example and say that it's never too late to show appreciation? In that vein, I'd like to thank the following folks for hiring me and entrusting me to work with them to create marketing materials for their businesses:
In a show of appreciation that highlights how people from similar industries work together in our network, Mary Buckley from MB Original Interiors wishes to acknowledge Marea Santos of Santos Organizational Stratagies and Jane Pelosi of Renaissance Interior Designs for referring a of a client to her. Mary says she loves helping her clients, "create a home that captures the spirit of the people living there." She appreciates Marea and Jayne’s confidence in her ability to do that. Beth Sobiloff of Birchwood Enterprises www.birchwoodenterprises.com who designs and maintains the SSWBN web site, wishes to thank Joan Collins of Joan Collins, Professional Coaching for introducing her to Art Keefe, Keefe and Company. Joan’s referral resulted in Beth creating his new website. It seems Beth has been receiving quite a few referrals. She is also is grateful to Steve Gilman of SPG Computer Services for referring Cadbury Commons, as well as Donna Erickson. Again this referral resulted in Beth creating another site. Beth credits Laura Willis of Willis-Works Communications for recommending Beth for a project that resulted in the two of them working together. Beth explains that Laura designed the site www.seniorservicenetwork.org and Beth made it "work". Finally Beth appreciates Barry Gordon of Gordon, Mond & Ott for hiring her to re-design the Gordon, Mond & Ott website, check out her work at www.gmo-law.com. It’s great to see so many members referring their peers and that it results in tangible business opportunities, as well as members using the services of other members we have grown to admire! If you know a member that deserves your praise for a job well done or for giving you a referral email me at jdonovan@jbcojewelry.com, with the names of those you would like to publicly thank in the next newsletter by the 10th of this month!
